"Things that upset a terrier may pass virtually unnoticed by a Great Dane."
-- Smiley Blanton

Read our commentary about responsible breeding
Our puppies are bred to provide you with a pup free of genetic defects, pleasing in appearance, and intelligent with a good attitude for learning. To the best of our knowledge, our breeding stock is free of common hereditary defects such as hip and elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, central retinal atrophy, cataracts, and thyroid disease as well as Exercise Induced Collapse, Centronuclear Myopathy, Retinal Dysplasia and Oculoskeletal Dysplasia.
When genetic tests are available for hereditary diseases, we usually have our dogs tested by an approved laboratory.
DDC Veterinary: DNA Services for Animals- Offers DNA tests for canine and equine species. Services include parentage, DNA genotyping, DNA banking, disease screening, and coat color prediction.
We now know that some of these diseases, previously perceived as hereditary, are influenced more by rearing, feeding, and neutering programs (See article Study Shines Spotlight On Neutering) than previously thought. Also a Great Health Article. We use the most current guidelines for nutrition and environment to give our pups the best possible start. We provide you with essential information on nutrition, body scoring and health care so you can take over when you get your puppy to provide an optimum environment.
We have been breeding Labradors for twenty years at this location, over 40 years in all and have faith in our breeding program, because it is backed by experience, education, and application.
"May we always have a young one full of promise to admit us to those places of wonderment only permissible while in the company of a Labrador" - Gene Hill from the epilogue of Richard's History of the Labrador.

"No animal should ever jump up on the dining room furniture unless absolutely certain that he can hold his own in the conversation."
-- Fran Lebowitz
We have several outstanding litters planned for this spring.
These include all English litters, all American Litters, and dual purpose litters (English/American). We should have puppies in all three AKC approved colors : Black, yellow and chocolate.
Please feel free to contact us for information, or submit a Puppy Questionnaire (numerous links are also on our puppy page to the Questionnaire) so we can discuss the best litter for you and your family.
We will post more information as it becomes available.
If you decide you want one of our puppies, please fill out Puppy Adoption Questionnaire so that we can help you select a puppy to suit your lifestyle. That is the first step in getting a Deep Run Puppy.
If you would like to be on the Labador puppy waiting list, please fill out our questionnaire and forward it to me, or give me a call at 540-752-4888.

already well started on obedience and retrieving? See our Trained
Dogs & Puppies with some training
All DEEP RUN puppies are born in the house,
have dewclaws removed, are wormed and vaccinated with the best biologicals
available. Pups are handled and well socialized, introduced to the collar and leash and
pigeons before they leave. Weather permitting, they are also introduced
to the water. Most puppies are sold before they are old enough to leave, so we recommend a
deposit as soon as you decide on a litter. If you come to pick up your
pup and donít find him or her suitable, your deposit will be immediately
refunded or transferred to another litter. Please call Phyllis
to discuss your special needs in a Field bred Labrador pup.
