Read our commentary about responsible breeding

Our puppies are bred to provide you with a pup free of genetic defects, pleasing in appearance, and intelligent with a good attitude for learning. To the best of our knowledge, our breeding stock is free of common hereditary defects such as hip and elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, central retinal atrophy, cataracts, and thyroid disease as well as Exercise Induced Collapse, Centronuclear Myopathy, Retinal Dysplasia and Oculoskeletal Dysplasia.

When genetic tests are available for hereditary diseases, we usually have our dogs tested by an approved laboratory.

DDC Veterinary: DNA Services for Animals- Offers DNA tests for canine and equine species. Services include parentage, DNA genotyping, DNA banking, disease screening, and coat color prediction.

We now know that some of these diseases, previously perceived as hereditary, are influenced more by rearing, feeding, and neutering programs (See article Study Shines Spotlight On Neutering) than previously thought. We use the most current guidelines for nutrition and environment to give our pups the best possible start. We provide you with essential information on nutrition, body scoring and health care so you can take over when you get your puppy to provide an optimum environment.

We have been breeding Labradors for twenty years at this location, over 40 years in all and have faith in our breeding program, because it is backed by experience, education, and application.

"May we always have a young one full of promise to admit us to those places of wonderment only permissible while in the company of a Labrador" - Gene Hill from the epilogue of Richard's History of the Labrador.

Hatter is an 85 pound, well built, exceptionally handsome chocolate dog with a lot of talent and a great personality. He has a sense of humor, too. He is a pretty special dog with a very special pedigree: son of MHR Deep Run After Six, MH, grandson of GMHRCH Six O'Clock Scholar, MH.
Hatter is the first chocolate Labrador Retriever ever to receive Master Hunter titles in both Retrieving and Flushing, and he received both Master titles in one year.
He is an excellent marker, has a superior nose, and handles very nicely. He is a joy to train, run and hunt, whether on waterfowl or upland birds. He is a very fun dog to have around: he is always happy to get a towel and stand on the bumper to be dried off after any water work.
Hatter is OFA Hips Good, Elbows Normal, EIC and CNM Clear, OFA Cardiac, Full Dentition, Patellas Normal, OFA Eyes Clear. Here is a link to Hatter's OFA page.

Deep Run Southern Hospitality (Howdy) is a chocolate factored black male that we are happy to have here as one of our Home Team. Howdy's call name is after his sire, FC Watermark's Texas Welcome MH, an exceptional dog bred and campaigned by Mary Tatum DVM of Watermark Retrievers in Texas. In 2003 Howdy placed or jammed in seven of his first 9 Opens.
Our Howdy's dam is a combination of Classic Conformation lines (uncle CH Simerdown's Dr Pepper won the LRC National) and Field Trial and NAHRA title holders. Great great grandmother GMHR Trieven Thunder Annie was the first ever NAHRA MAster Hunting Retriever, owned and handled by Jack.
Howdy is a very handsome 80 pound male, sired by FC Watermark's Texas Welcome. In addition to completing his Master Hunter title last year, Howdy currently has 3 passes toward his Senior Flushing Title. We hope to complete his Master Flushing title this year.
