"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." -- Groucho Marx

Our Labrador puppies are bred to give you the best possible Labrador pup that money can buy. If you want a hunt or field test dog, hunter/companion dog, obedience, agility, search and rescue dog, that can be your special friend and companion, a Deep Run puppy will be just right for you.

Read our commentary about responsible breeding

Our puppies are bred to provide you with a pup free of genetic defects, pleasing in appearance, and intelligent with a good attitude for learning. To the best of our knowledge, our breeding stock is free of common hereditary defects such as hip and elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, central retinal atrophy, cataracts, and thyroid disease as well as Exercise Induced Collapse, Centronuclear Myopathy, Retinal Dysplasia and Oculoskeletal Dysplasia.

When genetic tests are available for hereditary diseases, we usually have our dogs tested by an approved laboratory.

DDC Veterinary: DNA Services for Animals- Offers DNA tests for canine and equine species. Services include parentage, DNA genotyping, DNA banking, disease screening, and coat color prediction.

We now know that some of these diseases, previously perceived as hereditary, are influenced more by rearing, feeding, and neutering programs (See article Study Shines Spotlight On Neutering) than previously thought. Also a Great Health Article. We use the most current guidelines for nutrition and environment to give our pups the best possible start. We provide you with essential information on nutrition, body scoring and health care so you can take over when you get your puppy to provide an optimum environment.

We have been breeding Labradors for twenty years at this location, over 40 years in all and have faith in our breeding program, because it is backed by experience, education, and application.

"May we always have a young one full of promise to admit us to those places of wonderment only permissible while in the company of a Labrador" - Gene Hill from the epilogue of Richard's History of the Labrador.

Pancho is one of our most exciting young American Field dogs. He completed his Master title with a minimum number of trials and has been a consistent qualifier at the Master level since. Additionally,he received a Qualifying placement last fall.
He is a sweet and gentle dog, just like his dad, GMHRCH Deep Run Desperado MH (Hombre), he is cool and collected in the house and kennel but a fireball in the field.
Pancho got his name when we were eating out in a Mexican restaurant one evening. We loved his beautiful dark gold color, just like his sire, Hombre. There was large sign on the wall "Follow me to Gold and Glory", Pancho Villa. He became Pancho on the spot. Pancho and his littermate Deep Run Gypsy Gold are the product of one of Hombre's very last litters. Hombre was bred to an Elvis daughter, Deep Run Tutti Frutti, SH to produce these two spectacular young dogs.
Pancho qualified in enough consecutive Master events in 2014 to earn his Master Hunter Lifetime Achievement Award this Spring.

Older Pups:

Field Bred chocolate female pup born July 9, 2016 is available now. A very sweet and biddable puppy, Dawn loves to retrieve. She is excellent on a leash and can sit and come when called. She retrieves live birds and bumpers on land and in the water. She is good in a crate and adores everyone she meets. She would be an excellent companion, performance or hunting dog.

Sire: Deep Run Southern Hospitality, MH, MHU (Howdy), is a chocolate factored black male that we are happy to have here as one of our Home Team. Howdy's call name is after his sire, FC Watermark's Texas Welcome, MH, an exceptional dog bred and campaigned by Mary Tatum DVM of Watermark Retrievers in Texas. Howdy Sr. was a Number 2 Derby Dog, and won a minor stake Double Header to become Qualified All Age before he was 2 years old. He finished his first Open at 2 1/2. In 2003 Howdy placed or jammed in seven of his first 9 Opens. Our Howdy's dam is a combination of Classic Conformation lines (uncle CH Simerdown's Dr Pepper won the LRC National) and Field Trial and NAHRA title holders. Great great grandmother GMHR Trieven Thunder Annie was the first ever NAHRA Master Hunting Retriever.
Howdy is a very handsome 80 pound male, sired by FC Watermark's Texas Welcome. In addition to completing his Master Hunter title, Howdy also has his Master Flushing Title.

Dam: Shady Grove Deep Run Two Step, MH (Neely) is the finest chocolate field female I have owned. She is an excellent marker, very easy to train, and exceptionally biddable. She completed her Senior Title qualifying 6 in a row, and Jammed in the only Derby she ran. Neely has recently completed her Master Hunter.

All American black female born July 23, 2016 is available now. She likes to retrieve and does well on land and in water. She walks well on a leash, sits, and comes when called. Rides well, is used to being crated. She would be a great hunter, hunt test, or performance dog, or pet for an active home life.
Both parents are talented working dogs, with lots of personality and a true desire to please. Excellent candidate for Field Trials, Hunt Tests, other performance venues or active family life.

Sire: Deep Run Moondog, MH, NDL, QAA, High Point 2015 Yellow Male Derby Dog, (Haze) is such an amazing dog. Spectacular pinpoint marker, tremendously stylish, very biddable and the disposition of a companion dog. Haze is also a very handsome dog.
Since coming home at the end of February, Haze has Qualified in three Master tests, and I hope to have his Master Hunter completed by the time these pups are born. We will also be running in the Qualifying this year.

Dam: Deep Run Evening Star, JH (Venus) is an all American Field bred black female sired by Watermark Ticket to Ride MH (15 Derby points, Qualifying placements) and her mother is our own WR Deep Run Tutti Frutti SH. Venus is an enthusiastic retriever with a friendly and outgoing disposition. She loves to train on field work, and do anything with a little challenge. She is a great team player and lots of fun. She completed her Junior Title in 2014, going 4 for 4 Junior passes. She will be advancing in her training after this litter.
